First, I'm not in the usual demographic that listens to podcasts by JLD's generation. I've enjoyed a couple of different successful careers now, and I don't easily become a fanboy of who or what's hot at the moment. I've had a podcast since 2009. It's connected me with a lot of business over the years. I'm not a newbie. I know what needs to be done to achieve the level of success that JLD and others have with this platform. I've excelled at some parts, but have mediocre performance and attention in others.I started listening to EOFire podcast in 2014. I enjoyed many of the interviews, but was unimpressed at the time. I found JLD to be very likable, but just okay as a podcast host. He did have great guests on his show, so I continued to listen over the years. What really impresses me about JLD is that he steadily improved as a host over the years. His insight became sharper. He learned to bring out the best in his guests. Now the book...As I read through The Commone Guide to Uncommon Success, I relived JLD's path, as I've been an observer. The book is written out of nothing but sheer integrity and transparency. I've thoroughly enjoyed the way JLD takes the reader behind the scenes to share his emotions, his thinking that led to the next step on his journey. He hasn't held anything back here.Let me tell you the best part of the book: JLD has motivated me to do the things I have not wanted to do that lead to success. He's done this by connecting the dots between each activity he espouses and the outcome.There are lots of great teachers out there. JLD is that, but more importantly, he inspires and motivates. He is generous with his knowledge, transparent about his success, yet a humble man.This book has given me more clairity on my path moving forward than I've had in a very long time. I'm grateful for JLD for sharing his story and more specifically, his common path to uncommon success. I will read this book many times more. It will remain a main resource in my business library. I received the book yesterday on the release date and I’m only through chapter 7 thus far, but I have to say this book is exactly what I needed. I must be the authors perfect avatar, because everything he’s spoken to that’s far is right up my alley and encompasses all that I need to work on to grow my very infant idea/business.One of my favorite aspects of the book so far is that instead of just giving statements and recommendations on what “needs to be done”, The author follows that up with more detailed instructions of how to go about it. For example, most new entrepreneurs realize they need to create an avatar of their perfect customer. But I have never seen a more thorough guide us how to come up with that avatar than I have in this book.I am excited to get through the rest of the content and push ahead with actionable goals for my business, as I believe this information will help me with clarity of where I’m trying to head and who I’m trying to serve.
